The Tata Group under the holding of Tata Sons Ltd is an Indian conglomerate founded in 1870 by Parsen Jamshedji Tata and headquartered in Mumbai. The city of Jamshedpur was named after him in honor of the founder. Tata currently employs 660,000 people, with subsidiaries in 85 countries. A total of 98 companies belong to the Tata Group.
The Tata Group is divided into the areas of the metal industry, automobiles, telecommunications, software industry and tourism. A former company that belonged to the Tata group was Tata Airlines, which was nationalized in 1953 and was the forerunner of the national airline Air India.
