Mannesmann AG was a German industrial conglomerate founded in 1890 that began as a manufacturer of seamless steel tubes but evolved into a major telecommunications company by the 1990s through its D2 mobile network and other telecom ventures. The company was acquired by Vodafone in a hostile takeover in 2000 for โ‚ฌ190 billion (at the time the largest corporate merger in history).
